I would like to propose Michel Foucault’s ‘Of Other Spaces, Heterotopias’ for the second reading group this term. I am interested in this text for the observations it makes on space in relation to considerations about installation and exhibition politics. In the spirit of juxtaposition I am also concerned by how Foucault’s lecture intersects with Pistoletto’ manifesto, in his suggestion of the mirror as both a Heterotopic space and a Utopia. The text itself was released into the public domain for an exhibition in Berlin shortly before Foucault’s death in 1984.
The publication of this text written in 1967 was authorised by Foucault in 1984.
